A Thoughtful Outdoor Living Design Built Around Challenging Terrain

Sometimes landscape and hardscape design can be challenging, especially with sloped or uneven backyards. At Dex by Terra, we often see that the solution is more than just grading and building a retaining wall — it’s about elevating the outdoor space to create beauty and functionality.

Our clients in Norfolk, Massachusetts, wanted to remove their existing patio, build a fire pit area, and design an integrated pool house with an outdoor kitchen. The main challenge was their sloping backyard, but by embracing the elevated topography, we created an elevated fire pit that overlooks the entire outdoor living space, turning a potential challenge into a striking design feature.

Entertaining outdoors was a priority for our clients, so the Dex by Terra team strategically designed the pavilion and outdoor kitchen to allow the grill master to interact with guests while keeping an eye on the party. Every element was positioned to enhance social interaction and flow throughout the yard.

The French-style travertine pool deck and patio provides ample space for hosting large gatherings. Multiple lounge areas, a dining space, and the fire pit platform offer unique perspectives of the property while keeping guests connected. This Norfolk MA landscape design seamlessly combines functionality, style, and outdoor entertainment for a truly elevated backyard experience.

Our planning process began with a walkthrough of the property and thoughtful dialog which formed the client's wish list and budget.

DESIGN

Hand sketches, perspective renderings, and detailed architectural plans were developed and approved by the client.
